Special Operations
The Seth Foundation's National Search and Underwater Recovery Team
No last seen point...depth of water...lack of resources are just a few reasons why the recovery may not be successful.
This volunteer team is largely comprised of members of public safety dive teams from across the United States. They not only know first hand the tragedy of a drowning but the emotional toll on the entire community when recovery of the victim is not successful. They are trained on the most sophisticated search and recovery technology equipment available and work closely with the local search and recovery team.
Some of the technology used by the Seth Foundation’s Special Operations Team is scanning sonar. Both side scan sonar (www.marinesonic.com) and rotating sonar (www.kongsberg.com) are used when attempting to locate a victim. When there is no last seen point, sonar allows large areas to be searched without putting divers at risk.
The Stealth, a remote operated vehicle (www.sharkmarine.com) equipped with a rotating sonar, lights and a video camera is used to identify images of interest scanned by sonar. Upon positive identification of the victim, the Stealth is capable of recovering the victim with a manipulating arm or where conditions permit, the dive team on site will make the recovery.
The Seth Foundation’s Special Operations Team are very committed men and women who volunteer their time and expertise to bring closure to a family.
You can make a difference by donating money to help offset expenses of a recovery operation and to purchase cutting edge equipment used in our recovery operations.
